‘Winners’ grabbed prize at British film awards

Iranian feature film ‘Winners’ has won an award at the British Independent Film Awards in the UK.

Directed by Iranian-British filmmaker Hassan Nazer, the film grabbed the Discovery Award at the 2022 edition of the event.

The Persian-language film was previously named the Best UK Feature at the Raindance Film Festival.

‘Winners’ was shot entirely in Iran.

“In a small provincial town in Iran, the children work hard to support their families. One day nine-year-old Yahya and his friend find a precious statue. Sharing a passion for cinema, Yahya’s boss decides to help them find the owner,” a synopsis for the film reads.

The British Independent Film Awards highlight and reward the best, most innovative and creative independent filmmaking and filmmakers in the UK.

This year’s edition of the festival was held early in December.
